Samsung is months away from unveiling its first flagship phone for 2020, the Galaxy S11, but we already have an idea of some of the features that we could see inside. Qualcomm unveiled the Snapdragon 865 chipset for premium phones earlier this week. This chip is likely to be next year’s brains and heart of the high-end Samsung phones. With the new Qualcomm chip, the company has a long history of shipping, which offers its superphones the ability to woo customers with a long list of camera upgrades, battery life and gaming.
As the world’s largest mobile chipmaker, Qualcomm’s top-tier processors power many of the world’s most advanced devices. Many of the headlining features of a device come from within the chip directly, rather than from the manufacturer itself. The premium devices using Snapdragon 865 will have access to all the new features, but as always, it’s up to the phone manufacturer when, and even if, a smartphone will use all the capabilities of the chipset.
As soon as the first quarter of 2020, we will see top phones using Snapdragon 865. Qualcomm also released two more mobile phone processors, the midtier Snapdragon 765 and 765 G, a gaming phone-specific chip.
